#33590 closed submission (wontfix)

py26-wxpython-devel

Reported by: neurodroid (Christoph Schmidt-Hieber) Owned by: jyrkiwahlstedt
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version:

Port: py26-wxpython-devel

Description (last modified by ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt))

The attached Portfile has been modified from py27-wxpython-devel. The attached patch is an exact copy of the py27 version. Previous problems with building a py26 version (see ticket #20952) appear to be solved now - builds without problems against wxWidgets-devel.

Just realised that I didn't change the maintainer from jwa to gmx.de:christsc. Apologies. jwa is obviously welcome to maintain this port as well.

Instead of creating a new port, the existing py27-wxpython-devel port should be updated to use the unified python 1.0 portgroup. Then the py26 version can be easily added as a subport. See the py-pil port for an example.

As you may have seen, wxWidgets-devel has been bumped to 2.9.4 causing all dependent wxPython packages to be put on hold… But as soon as those are out, we'll do this.

This ticket is relatively old now. I created a port py-wxpython-3.0 in r110279, so it's only an issue of adding support for another Python version if there's a need for it. Is support for Python 2.6 still relevant and in case it is - can you please just let me know why Python 2.7 isn't sufficient?

comment:7 Changed 11 years ago by neurodroid (Christoph Schmidt-Hieber)

Python 2.6 support is not relevant any longer from my point of view.

OK, so I'm closing the ticket. Just to make myself clear: there is absolutely no problem to add support for Python 2.6 if anyone needs it, but there are some 6 years old tickets still open here which ask for solving problems with Python 2.4 or 2.5 just because that used to be the default version back then. And if Python 2.7 works fine, I would prefer to stick with that one.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
