Description

The version of APR (Apache Portable Runtime) in Darwinports is a pre-release version from when it was still a subproject of the httpd. It's gone independent, 1.11, and should be updated.

httpd still depends on an older (this) version of apr, and so we've avoided updating this.

I suppose we could add a new port for the older version of apr that apache needs.

An alternate approach (to splitting up the apr project) would be to alter the httpd projects to simply build integrally the version of apr that they ship with. This would keep dp from having to worry about which apr comes with which httpd. ...Just a thought.

Either solution comes at the expense of the benefit of having apr as a shared library, though.

In any event, I'll have to coordinate with the apache2 port for any changes, so I'm emailing the maintainer (I would just Add CC: but apparently the maintainer doesn't have a bugzilla account?).

All port maintainers should have bugzilla accounts, so if James (james@…) doesn't could you please ask him to fix that and open one up for himself? Thanks!

I haven't heard anything back from him wrt bugzilla _or_ deciding on which way to go for updating the apr, apr-util, and apache2 ports. Perhaps you'd have better luck, jmpp?

Summary: Time To Update The APRUPDATE: Time To Update The APR

I James won't react on mail to the account from the Portfile AND doesn't have a Bugzilla account - I'd say bad luck, if decisions get made w/o you. You have my blessings to decide the fait of apache2 then.
