nagios-plugins +universal fails: -E, -S, -save-temps and -M options are not allowed with multiple -arch flags

Using: MacPorts 2.1.1

Attempting to get nagios installed via MacPorts and keep running into this problem

$ sudo port install nagios
--->  Computing dependencies for nagios
--->  Dependencies to be installed: nagios-plugins
--->  Building nagios-plugins
Error: org.macports.build for port nagios-plugins returned: command execution failed
Error: Failed to install nagios-plugins

The log says:

gcc-4.2: -E, -S, -save-temps and -M options are not allowed with multiple -arch flags

I can reproduce that problem when building universal. Apparently the universal variant does not work for this port it should be disabled (or it might work if we used the muniversal portgroup). Clean and try again without the universal variant.
