Description: modified (diff)
Owner: changed from macports-tickets@… to mcalhoun@…
Port: dbus added; Wine removed
Summary: new install of wine. Error: Failed to install dbusdbus: org.freedesktop.dbus-session.plist already exists and does not belong to a registered port

Why does that file already exist and not belong to a port? Did you have this port installed before, then incompletely uninstall it and/or MacPorts, then try to install it again? Remove the offending file, or use the "-f" flag, like the error message tells you to do, which will rename the offending file for you.

Replying to ryandesign@…:

Ans: Port installed before under OS X 10.5.

Thought I completely uninstalled both wine & MacPorts using MacPorts users guide (uninstalling wine - suod port uninstall wine) also David Baumgold web developers (wine for Mac - Uninstalling Wine and MacPorts).

Downloaded currant version of MacPorts for OX 10.6 following David Baumgold's notes.

Tried your suggestion (port -f activate dbus and got the following:

MacBookPro-2:~ jwb_admin$ port -f activate dbus

Error: Insufficient privileges to write to MacPorts install prefix.

Thank you for assisting in resolving this problem.

Cordially,

James W. Benes
