Qemu install fails -- missing dependency on glib2

During the config stage of qemu (sudo port install qemu) the following message is generated in the log with the command failure
info:configure glib-2.12 required to compile QEMU
doing a "sudo port install glib2" and then repeating the qemu install seems to address the problem.
