GraphicsMagick: build fails

Upgrading to OS X 10.8.2 broke my octave install. I tried uninstalling all ports and reinstalling macports (v 2.1.2), and still neither octave (v3.2.4) or octave-devel (v3.6.3) will install. Both fail when trying to install GraphicsMagick. See below.

Error: Processing of port octave-devel failed

I've tried many different flags, like +gcc45, and so on. I tried the portfile here​. Nothing works. I tried looking at previous tickets, but none seemed to report the exact same error.

The fact that it went straight to building GraphicsMagick, skipping the earlier phases fetch, extract, patch and configure, shows that this was not a clean attempt. Please "sudo port clean GraphicsMagick" and then try again, and if it fails again, attach the main.log file.
