Gettext Error

I can not update or upgrade or install anything it seems. The errors I receive seem to involve gettext: 

eduroam-247-103:gnuplot-4.6.0 dorothyoliver$ sudo port selfupdate

MacPorts base version 2.1.2 installed,
MacPorts base version 2.1.2 downloaded.
--->  Updating the ports tree

The ports tree has been updated. To upgrade your installed ports, you should run
  port upgrade outdated

Error: org.macports.build for port gettext returned: command execution failed

Port: gettext added

This was not a clean build attempt. Please run "sudo port clean gettext", then try again. If that worked, then this was another case of #29223. If that didn't work, then please attach the main.log file so that we can see what went wrong.
