Description (last modified by ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt))

Hi,

Following the MacPorts uninstall tutorial (http://guide.macports.org/#installing.macports.uninstalling), after trying to remove "all remaining traces" I had my desktop and documents wiped out, and till now, I was not able to recover anything.

Can someone help with this ? Or at least tell me what went wrong ?

Below the instructions I followed, just like in the tutorial :

alf$ sudo rm -rf \
> /opt/local \
> /Applications/MacPorts \
> /Library/LaunchDaemons/org.macports.* \
> /Library/Receipts/DarwinPorts*.pkg \
> /Library/Receipts/Macports*.pkg \
> /Library/StartupItems/DarwinPortsStartup \
> /Library/Tcl/darwinports1.0 \
> /Library/Tcl/macports1.0 \
> ~/ .macports

Replying to lkrezdorn@…:

~/ .macports

if you really did that (with the space there), that was your problem.

You'll need to restore from backup (as rm -rf ~/ would remove everything in your home directory)

Thank you for your feedback. Being 10000 miles away from my backup the only solution I found is a paying one : either Disk Drill or Data Rescue 3. If you have an advice on that or on an alternative solution thank you to tell.

So with no space everything would have been OK ?

Yes, the space is to blame for the tragic consequences of your copypasta mistake. :-/

Trac is not for tech support. Please use the Macports-Users Mailing List for that.
