#37744 new update

sshfs-gui: MacFUSE no longer maintained, replaced by OSXFUSE?

Port: sshfs-gui

Description

According to the homepage listed for sshfs-gui, http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/,

Please Note: This project is no longer being maintained. We cannot currently help with any lion (or any large feline) related bugs or issues. The MacFuse google group is a decent resource for finding forks/replacement projects.

It looks like OSXFUSE, http://osxfuse.github.com/, is a replacement or successor:

FUSE for OS X allows you to extend OS X's native file handling capabilities via third-party file systems. OSXFUSE is a successor to MacFUSE, which has been used as a software building block by dozens of products, but is no longer being maintained.

Does anyone have experience with OSXFUSE? Should we look into having the sshfs-gui port provide OSXFUSE instead of MacFUSE?

Does OSXFUSE include an sshfs GUI? I couldn't find one in the source on github. We've already moved everything off of MacFUSE AFAIK; sshfs-gui depends on fuse4x (which is another MacFUSE fork) via sshfs.

Replying to jmr@…:

Could this be it?

Oh, I see. In that case, could we update the homepage for this port?

Go ahead and change the homepage to whatever would be appropriate; the port is nomaintainer.

Since fuse4x is on GitHub, why is master_sites set to macports?

The port provides the sshfs GUI that came from MacFUSE. It hasn't been updated in years, other than to make it build on modern systems and use fuse4x's sshfs. So if you can find something appropriate to update it to, definitely feel free!

I wasn't aware that either Fuse4X or OSXFUSE had created an updated version of this GUI. (The OSXFUSE prefpane isn't it; that's for updating OSXFUSE.)

Fuse4x has merged with OSXFuse https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/fuse4x/Pi55U_K4HgU

In the future, there will only be OSXFuse, according to the developer. At some point, the fuse4x ports need to be updated and renamed accordingly. Maybe made into a stub like MacFuse --> Fuse4X.
