libpng: nawk: illegal jump type 339

Description
libpng is outdated and running 'sudo port -nR upgrade --force libpng' fails with:
sudo port -nR upgrade --force libpng ---> Computing dependencies for libpng ---> Configuring libpng Error: org.macports.configure for port libpng returned: configure failure: command execution failed Please see the log file for port libpng for details: /opt/local/var/macports/logs/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_tarballs_ports_graphics_libpng/libpng/main.log Error: Unable to upgrade port: 1
I have done cleans on all outdated ports and the entire MP installed as well.
I get the same failure (or "file already exists") when trying upgrades on the other outdated ports.
Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Xcode 3.2.6 Component versions: DevToolsCore-1809.0; DevToolsSupport-1806.0 BuildVersion: 10M2518 MacPorts 2.1.3
