digikam does not show images

Description
I've just installed digikam. When I try to run it, all menus and windows appear but the program does not display any of the photos. It can import photos and build thumbnails but the thumbnails are not displayed, and I can't see the photos.
I don't know if this helps, but the status message on the bottom right corner says "No active process". I'm attaching a screenshot.

Also there's a ticket open to update digikam to the latest version: #38706
Maybe once that update is worked out, this issue will also be fixed...?
