#40229 closed defect (worksforme)

kerberos5 installs inferior ftp binary

Reported by: pelle@… Owned by: macports-tickets@…
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version: 2.2.0
Keywords: Cc:
Port: kerberos5

Description

OS X comes with a very useful /usr/bin/ftp, which works much like wget does on Linux. Unfortunately the kerberos5 package installs a /opt/local/bin/ftp which is much less useful. I'd prefer it to not be there, at least with a variant option.

Are you sure your /opt/local/bin/ftp is installed by kerberos5? I cannot reproduce:

:( clemens@cSchlepptop:~$ port installed kerberos5
The following ports are currently installed:
  kerberos5 @1.11.3_0 (active)
:) clemens@cSchlepptop:~$ port contents kerberos5 | grep ftp
:( clemens@cSchlepptop:~$

What version of kerberos5 do you have? Which OS, which version of MacPorts? What does port provides /opt/local/bin/ftp print?

Seems it was already removed. Sorry for the noise.

I think one of the last updates of the kerberos5 port did remove quite a number of no longer relevant utility binaries. The ftp one might have been in this set, too.
