This is similar to #30361, but for Mavericks. The following patch:
$ diff arch-n-opsys arch-n-opsys.patched 47a48 > 13*) OPSYS=darwin; HEAP_OPSYS=darwin ;; # MacOS X 10.9 Mavericks
applied to file /opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_tarballs_ports_lang_smlnj/smlnj/work/smlnj-110.75/config/_arch-n-opsys seems to fix the problem.

Since this port is not openmaintained, I won't update the version until tomorrow (maintainer timeout).
Patched to allow Mavericks build, r112633.

this can be resolved by just bumping version. smlnj-110.76 has been released for solving exactly that issue: http://www.smlnj.org/dist/working/110.76/110.76-README.html (Summary: The primary purpose of this release are bug fixes (mostly on Windows) and to add support for the latest version of Mac OS X (10.9/Mavericks).)
