Description

I have a Macbook running Mac OS X version 10.7.5 with a 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB Ram

I installed XCode version 4.6.2 and the command line tools

When I try to install Mac Ports I get an error cause it cant run the Tar Command

When I run sudo port selfupdate in terminal I get the following error

Launch of "tar" failed: the PowerPC architecture is no longer supported.

Thanks,

Steve d4s@…

For whatever reason, your tar program has been replaced with an old version designed for PowerPC processors. You need to fix this and put back the version that came with OS X 10.7.5 which is designed for Intel processors, for example by restoring from your backups or by reinstalling OS X. The relevant files to check would be /usr/bin/gnutar, /usr/bin/bsdtar and /usr/bin/tar (the latter should be a symlink to bsdtar).
