The firefox-x11 and firefox-x11-devel ports were intentionally deleted in r115717 because they were unmaintained and horribly out of date. Please email macports-users if you'd like to start a discussion about restoring them.

Since you have a vested interest in these ports, why don't you just assume maintainership and bring them up-to-date yourself? That would provide a pretty strong argument for restoration.

Since I deleted the ports I figure I should probably comment on this: these ports contained a vast number of security holes. Please find a different solution that works for you or provide an updated Portfile – there doesn't seem to be enough interest among the current MacPortsDevelopers, since nobody else has bothered to update the ports in a few years.

I would strongly advise against running firefox-x11 in the state it was before I deleted it.

Hi,

I understand your point and it makes sense. The only problem I have is I can’t find this software in any other place! I’ve looked for it hight and low! This port was interesting because you can run firefox on MAC with a X11 server. Could someone provided me with an url or repository from where I can download it (when I updated MacPorts, this ports was deleted).

kind regards

See the InstallingOlderPort wiki page. The latest version that was in trunk can be found at trunk/dports/www/firefox-x11?rev=111562. My copy of the Portfile that I was working on but never finished can be found at https://github.com/cooljeanius/LocalPorts/tree/master/www/firefox-x11

Also Fink has multiple versions of the X11 version of firefox: http://pdb.finkproject.org/pdb/browse.php?name=firefox&noshlibsdev=on

Just an FYI, it's not in Fink anymore either I believe, and this provides insight as to the sad state of FF x11 for Mac: https://sourceforge.net/p/fink/mailman/message/34047822/

Is there any browser that works under -x11 that can be used instead? I found surf but that's a pretty poor solution. I want to run a browser under i3wm.

Check out epiphany. But webkit2-gtk still has bugs on Mac FYI.
