Seems OK in my tests.

I have attached an updated patch, that adds a few things I have been sitting on, fixes to a few variants + adding some that where missing.

I also reworked a little the python variant code, to only add python27 by default, if the user has not already selected another python variant.

I just noticed that I accidentally broke python support in the last patch, due to a conflict between the local variables used by the python ands gcc variant code.

The new patch file fixes this ....
