Updated mysql versions from 4, 5 to 5, 5.1, 5.5, 5.6

Hmm. I didn't touch the $Id$ line, but I edited my local copy of the port and diffed against one downloaded from Trac.

Also worth noting that I haven't attempted building against any version of MySQL other than 5.6, so the 5.1 and 5.5 versions are only speculative.

That could mean you were editing an older copy of the Portfile.

I "port selfupdate" quite frequently, and the port hasn't been touched in 6 years. I could have done lots of things wrong and probably did, but "editing an older copy" seems a little improbable, no?

That's why I said "could". There are a number of possible explanations including that you are not using Macports from svn locally.
