#4910 closed enhancement (wontfix)

RFE: Apache's mime.types file should include extention m4a under audio/mpeg

Description

Apache2 (and 1.3, I believe) only serves certain files as mimetype audio/mpeg. Look in mime.types:

audio/mpeg mpga mp2 mp3

Since the AAC MPEG format is so common on Macs, the DarwinPorts version of Apache should add m4a to that lists.

This prevents some browsers (Safari, for instance) from just displaying the sound file as text, and allows it to be played in Quicktime instead.

You should try to report this upstream.

They don't want to do it upstream. http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/httpd-docs/200601.mbox/%3cEBA9AD22-0E8C-493F-966D-4A723E691AA5@codefaktor.de%3e

And I don't think we'd want to glob on our own additions for the same reason, so I think this should be closed.
