libpng 1.6.21 fails to install: failure while applying patches

Description

while installing libpng under macports 2.3.3, I get an error about a patch failing while trying to install libpng. The error in the shell is below. I'm also attaching the log file that is referenced by the error message

$ sudo port install libpng
--->  Computing dependencies for libpng
--->  Applying patches to libpng
Error: org.macports.patch for port libpng returned: command execution failed

Are you sure this is a clean attempt? 'sudo port clean libpng' and then try again.

Thanks!! Am new to Mac OS and MacPorts (coming from Ubuntu, grudgingly); and was/am not familiar with MacPorts, nor how to address installation issues like this.

One more question: how can I mark this ticket closed? If I can't, to whomever controls that, please feel free to close it. Cleaning the previous package install fixed the issue immediately.
