kdenlive @0.9.10_1: update available to 19.04.0

Port: kdenlive

Description

Hello,

I would like to request if possible to update the Kdenlive version from 0.9.10 to the (to be released next week) 16.08 version. This versin uses the KF5 frameworks and QT5 which technically shouldn't be to hard to port.

This is an important editing program that could help many people.

PS I hope that this is the proper channel to do this if not I apollogize.

Cheers

Yes, indeed, that is the reason why you still find 0.9.10 as the latest available version...

which technically shouldn't be to hard to port.

... as this isn't as easy as you may think!

We (but mainly one of us, René) are working - with very limited manpower - since more than a year on introducing KF5 to MacPorts.

This is an important editing program that could help many people.

+1

It is.

Stick with us and help us testing the upcoming new port qt5-kde.

I will keep an eye on it and will update Kdenlive's website with more info on the port.

I've returned from holidays and will be getting back into the saddle over the coming days. port:kf5-kdenlive will definitely be one of the ports I'll be looking to upgrade, but all KF5 ports are currently in a testing state and not yet included in the main ports tree. I do not recall any particular difficulties with getting Kdenlive to build and run (I did commit a patch or 2). The real technical difficulties are with getting the KF5 frameworks to build and function like we want them to under MacPorts, i.e. in a way that "things work" as much as possible as they do under Linux. That's the best way to ensure that applications using the KF5 frameworks work as expected. Sadly it requires patching Qt, though, which makes it a challenge.

Are you calling me limited, Marko? :))

Haha, would never dare to even think that! ;-)

Good to see you back!!!

A new KF5 version is out now as well. Things are progressing...

Hello

Any updates on this issue? Does the latest frameworks version solve the issues you've had?

Thanks :)

To be honest I haven't been giving kdenlive much love recently, nor have I been upgrading other KF5 ports "religiously" (except for my workhorse, KDevelop). port:kf5-kdenlive is at version 16.12.0, which worked quite well in the very limited testing I gave it. IIRC a fix has been released for an OpenGL threading issue I reported.

Apart from that we're still working towards introducing qt5-kde and then the frameworks, and that turns out to be the kind of stop-motion (mostly stopped, sometimes bursts of motion and not always in the direction I'd like) experience I feared it would be.

Thanks for the reply, is there anything (non-code related) I can do to help you out?

Not at the moment, but thanks!

Kdenlive's Vincent Pinon is starting to look into this, would any one be interested in maybe joining forces? If so please contact him via mailing list or telegram group.

Cheers
