Have you installed the xorg-server port, or XQuartz, and have you opened the app it installed? What is the value of the DISPLAY environment variable?

Yeah, I’m sorry, there might be a missing dependency here. Try installing gtk2 (e.g. sudo port install gtk2 +quartz) and build again. I apologise for the inconvenience.
