So I tried to do this work months ago, but the config+build dies hard, and I have no idea how to fix it. If you just bump the version number, it dies badly.
If you want to debug it and submit a patch, it will speed up the upgrade.

Okay, if that patch is applied and patch-Makefile-am-etc is replaced with the new file for files/ everything will be good.
