Octave 4.2 freezes under OS 10.12.3

Description

I installed Octave 4.2 on my Mac running OS 10.12.3. It freezes regularly and just shows the Mac beach ball. This is making it unusable. Is there a fix? Also, the Octave 4.2 icon only has 3 squares.

This is what I have installed specifically:
