Hi :)

I'd like to work on this. It seems like that building CouchDB 2.x from source requires an Erlang OTP <= 19 but the Erlang port is basically tracking upstream major releases. Should I use the binary distribution of CouchDB instead?

I don't know whether you should use the binary instead, but for building from source, the release notes for CouchDB 2.3.1 claim it to be compatible with Erlang 21.x, and MacPorts' erlang is currently 21.1.
