Bryan, there is no dependency on pkgconfig, which is needed. After adding a depends_build on it, it barfs upon not finding the fontconfig.pc file (which of course isn't there, since on mac os x, fontconfig comes with the X11 from apple). how did you built this?

That pkg-config likes to mess with me...I guess installing it early prior to doing other things make one not always notice its requirement.
As far as fontconfig, I installed a newer version via DP and that's the one which Xft should be seeing. Not sure how to make a DP-installed version required over a base X11-install version.
