this is the file that record the 404 error about the file gmt5-5.4.2_1+gdal+nonfree+pcre.darwin_16.x86_64.tbz2 not being found. it has 7 attempts to install gmt5, and I just found that only the first has the 404 error. The other 6 have different sets of errors. I used MacPorts to install GMT5 several years ago and have been selfupdating and then "upgrade outdated" and it has always worked like a charm - until a week ago. While working on this probem I uninstalled all macports, homebrew, and andaconda installs, upgraded to sierra from el captian and tried to install gmt4 and gmt5 with macports. This log is named main_old.log since I ran an attempt at installing it today and will attach the log with just that install next.

Macports cannot seem to find the "source" for the GMT5 package.

Description: modified (diff)

Macports cannot seem to find the "source" for the GMT5 package.

I doubt that.

The 404 errors you showed are not MacPorts failing to download the source. They are MacPorts failing to download a pre-compiled binary. We are not permitted to distribute pre-compiled binaries of gmt5 due to its license. Therefore MacPorts must build it from source.

If the source build failed, please attach the main.log file so that we can see why that happened.

since the os upgrade I've installed gmt4, gmt5 and dos2unix with macports. gmt4 and gmt5 both complain about an hdf5 library-header file mismatch (see "Warning! *HDF5 library version mismatched error*" in this file and ticket #56445: hdf5 - Headers are 1.10.1, library is 1.10.2), and gmt 4 is partially working, while gmt5 is not completing.

Could you try 5.4.4 committed in [212038bd/macports-ports]?
