Just installed MacVim-8.1.snapshot151_0 on Mojave, from the binary, and it's barely usable, the text input area constantly flickers.

This is totally an upstream issue with MacVim, and it has nothing to do with MacPorts. See 57170 and feel free to leave your comments here: <https://github.com/macvim-dev/macvim/issues/751>.

There is a workaround in that PR that you can use temporarily.

Thanks, so there's a record here the workaround is to disable the Core-Text renderer in the MacVim advanced settings.
