octave 5.1.0: Launching app causes spinning ball

Description

Just upgraded to Octave 5.1.0. When I start it I get the Mac colored spinning ball. It doesn't stop.

I also found no issue with

octave @5.1.0_0+accelerate+app+docs+gfortran+graphicsmagick+qt5+sound+sundials

on Mojave.

I am sorry, but I can not reproduce this error.
It is unlikely that we can do much without narrowing down the problem.

Does this error happen every time or intermittently?

It happens every time. Interestingly, there is an Octave-5.1.0 app from Octave-app.org that does the same thing for me. Got to be something about my machine?
