I have the Apple X beta installed, and when I tried to install ImageMagick it also tried to build XFree86 (and failed because it existed already).

Since it works just fine for me, I'd like to know if anyone else can reproduce this?

By "it" do you mean it does NOT try to build XFree86? Or it builds it without failing (I realize now I forgot to run port via sudo).

I wonder what I'm doing wrong? How does port "know" what's installed?

Can you attach the output from running "port -v -d configure" to get an idea of what port may be doing (stop it if it starts to build X11)?

What is the status of this bug? Also, do you have the X11 SDK package installed, in addition to the X11.app package? (Check in /Library/Receipts for Installer package receipts.)
