Description (last modified by ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt))

One of our VMware hosts has suffered an SSD failure, as a result of which the 10.6-i386, 10.8, 10.11 and 10.13 workers are down and will need to be restored from backups. There may be separate issues involved in bringing each of these back online so I'll make separate tickets. I plan to restore them to spare hard disks temporarily until I can get a new SSD.

I have tried to boot to the 10.11 installer and restore from Time Machine backup. It says it can't because the backup was made on a different Mac model. This is a lie; I have created the new virtual machine the same way as I created the other VMs before.

I tried to reinstall 10.11 but the installation failed. I may need to backdate the clock to a time when the installer's certificate was valid, or download a fresh copy of the installer.

After downloading a fresh copy of Install OS X El Capitan and making a fresh iso file from it, I was able to boot a new VM and install a fresh copy of El Capitan. The Time Machine backup restored successfully. Xcode would not install its additional components because "The package 'MobileDevice.pkg' is untrusted"; presumably its certificate expired in October 2019 like everything else did. I am downloading a fresh copy of Xcode 8.2.1 which was posted in November 2019; presumably it contains packages signed with newer certificates.

Xcode, Xcode additional components, and Xcode command line tools reinstalled. Software updated. This builder is back online. I'm sure it will take days to work though the > 700 pending build requests.

It is running on a hard disk for now, but the hard disk is dedicated to this VM and I plan to buy a new SSD soon to bring things back up to normal speed.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
