unison doesn't do anything unless started with "-ui text"

Description
I just installed unison on MacOS Catalina. It runs fine if I explicitly tell it to run in text mode with -ui text. If I don't specify -ui, or use -ui graphic, the cursor moves to the next line after I press Enter, but nothing further ever happens.
