openssl3 fails to build on Mac OS 10.6 - can't read "patch.cmd"

I tried to install openssl3 on Mac OS 10.6.8, but it fails with this error: 

--->  Attempting to fetch openssl3-3.0.1_0+legacy+universal.darwin_10.i386-x86_64.tbz2 from http://mse.uk.packages.macports.org/openssl3
--->  Applying patches to openssl3
Error: Failed to patch openssl3: can't read "patch.cmd": Failed to locate 'patch' in path: '/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin' or at its MacPorts configuration time location, did you move it?
