[OSX 10.6.8 -- py-backports.entry-points-selectable] sandbox-exec: line 1: Error reading string

I am attempting to install py39-virtualenv. I have already installed rust (with dependencies) and python39. I am using a custom installation path specified with configure during the initial installation of Macports.

I am running a virtual machine with Snow Leopard retail DVD, and upgrade 10.6.8 combo from Apple, and Xcode 3.2.6. I have _not_ upgraded the toolchain as described in the Macports document section entitled LibcxxOnOlderSystems.

The following workaround (which is not a fix of the underlying issue) was obtained from an unrelated thread / ticket for a different port:

"... you can disable sandboxing entirely as a temporary workaround by adding sandbox_enable no to your macports.conf. Since sandboxing is a good thing in general, you should remember to change it back once a fix is released."
