The kpathsea: configuration file texmf.cnf not found come quite often and can surely be neglected, but the ld: warning seems to be serious…

(In the end the port built and was installed. Running /opt/local/libexec/texlive/binaries/hitex --help seems to work – no knowledge of HINT!)

Now TeX Live 2023 is the recent version and TeX Live 2024 will follow in three months, so this ticket can be closed. But I've seen similar warnings when compiling TeX Live 2023 on PPC Leopard, Mac OS X 10.5.6 recently.
