zenity creates white on white windows on OSX 15.1 sonoma

Whatever I tried to set (eg:GTK_THEME=Adwaita:dark zenity --calendar) the windows created by zenity on my local machine or in X11 from a remote server appear white on white.
They are functional as I can for instance click the invisible OK button in the calendar but text and items are all pained in white.
zenity:3.42.1 (macport) osX: 15.1 XQuartz 2.8.5 (xorg-server 21.1.6)
