Description
On Apple silicon with build_arch set to x86_64, some ports, notably libffi, don't build.
To reproduce:
git clone https://github.com/macports/macports-base.git cd macports-base git switch --detach v2.11.6 ./configure --prefix=/opt/bug make sudo make install sudo /opt/bug/bin/port selfupdate
Then edit /opt/bug/etc/macports/macports.conf and uncomment build_arch x86_64.
Then try running sudo /opt/bug/bin/port install libffi.
Output:
---> Fetching distfiles for libffi ---> Attempting to fetch libffi-3.4.8.tar.gz from https://distfiles.macports.org/libffi ---> Verifying checksums for libffi ---> Extracting libffi ---> Applying patches to libffi ---> Configuring libffi ---> Building libffi Error: Failed to build libffi: command execution failed Error: See /opt/bug/var/macports/logs/_opt_bug_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_macports_release_tarballs_ports_devel_libffi/libffi/main.log for details. Error: Follow https://guide.macports.org/#project.tickets if you believe there is a bug. Error: Processing of port libffi failed

My current workaround is to comment the build_arch, build libffi with +universal, then uncomment the build_arch again and proceed with building ports that depend on libffi.
