Installing postgresql81 +python FAILS on 10.3.9

After invoking "sudo port install postgresql81 +python", the build failed. When I removed the +python variant, the build succeeded. But now I can't use Python from inside PostgreSQL.

I have the most up-to-date version of XCode for 10.3: XCode 1.5 + November 2004 GCC Updater. DarwinPorts is also current at version 1.211.

gcc version 3.3 20030304 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 1671)

MacPorts doesn't officially support Panther any more. This probably isn't going to be fixed unless a patch is supplied.
