UPDATE: m4-1.4
In order to distinguish gnu-m4 from bsd-m4 (necessary on FreeBSD) we need a program-prefix; I ran into this while building autoconf on FreeBSD which needs gnu-m4 and if depending on some binary named m4... can find anything w/o beeing sure which version was found.
there are also some cleanups (especially the master_sites replacement)
