I suggest to add ​http://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/src/ to master_sites, because old versions are moved to this directory. This would avoid such issues in the future.

Great work guys. I hit this error today. Did a 'port sync', then tried again and the rsync install I need for git-core worked. Thanks a bunch.
