gnome-desktop-suite: modifies variants.conf without warning

Description
Installing gnome-desktop-suite causes variants.conf to be modified without any notification that this has been done. I don't think a port should modify a MacPorts configuration file. It would be better for it to output a message to the user explaining to them why they might want to modify the file and how to do so.

devans removed the code that did this from gnome-desktop-suite in r51214.
