Description

In an attempt to build python 26 as part of a (painfully) long install of povray (why won't this use native X11???) on a fresh Mac OSX system, the system reports an Image Error:

Error: Activating python26 @2.6.1_0 failed: Image error: /Applications/MacPorts/Python 2.6/Build Applet.app/Contents/Info.plist already exists and does not belong to a registered port. Unable to activate port python26.

(Port can, ultimately, be activated if all .app's are removed from /Applications/Python 2.6/.)

This can happen if the installation process is stopped at just the wrong moment and then restarted.
Since you have already found the correct solution, I will close this ticket.
