macports-notifier build fails

Macports-notifier does not build on a native build of Leopard (not updated from Tiger) that is updated to 10.5.8.

Command: 'sudo port install macports-notifier' typed into the terminal shell returns this error (A previous attempt to install macports-notifier had put the dependencies in place.):
