You should NOT update the port avr-gcc to a new revision: avr-gccs differ in their optimization techniques. avr-gcc of revision 4.0.2 is known to produce very good space saving optimizations with -Os.

Rather make a new port avr-gcc-43 or avr-gcc-newest or whatsoever.

+1 for this update. 4.0.2 is spitting out a ton of useless warnings about object file alignment. It also lacks support for the atmega328[p]. Arduino is also shipping with 4.3.2 as well.

+1 for this too.. 4.0.2 doesn't support the 324P I'm using..

I'm trying to clean up the avr-crosstools ticket hell.

I'm closing this ticket in favour of #33107 and #33201

Please reopen and complain soon if anything is wrong with updating the avr toolchain to the software versions of the new tickets.

If upgrading to gcc 4.6.2 and binutils 2.22 is - generally spoken - ok, please help testing the patches in these tickets, since I myself am using this stuff only with an m8515.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
