Thanks, that solved it. It appears there is currently no information whatsoever about archivefetch, archives etc. in the macports documentation, nor in the port man page.

Apparently you have an incomplete archive in /opt/local/var/macports/software/py27-libxml2/. Try deleting it and then cleaning py27-libxml2.
