It looks like this increases the version number of libvala, which would require incrementing the revision of any port that links against it. But do dependents wind up linking against libvala? It's not clear to me.

Looking at the history of the Portfile I see that the version (including major version) just was bumped. I've never heard that it breaks other ports.

Yeah, it doesn't sound like anything besides the vala port links against that library.
