MacVim: Bad font rendering

Description
I installed MacVim from MacPorts (on Mountain Lion).
However, the font rendering is (compared to the binary version of Mac Vim that is distributed on GitHub) ugly. See the attached screenshot.

I can't reproduce this on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. Both the binary distribution and the MacPorts version render identical for me.

Do you have the "experimental renderer" enabled in the preferences of MacVim? Does enabling this renderer make any difference?

No, but when I enable it, there is no difference between font rendering of both Mac Vim variants.
