#44272 closed enhancement (fixed)

Please add comments about interpretting [*] etc. to the guide

Description

The

port variants foo

command of course displays the port’s available variants, including [*] for default variants, (*) for selected, non-default variants, and presumably (-) for deselected default variants. This is great but the meaning of [*], (*), and (-) aren’t described in the documentation, https://guide.macports.org/.

A short note about interpretting these things added to Sections 3.1.8 and 3.2 would be helpful.
