Replying to mf2k@…:

OK, that was not so helpful but a point of etiquette received and noted. I see the priority as high as I really need texlive but priority is always subjective. (-:

Any actually useful suggestions from anyone before I go somewhere else for my LaTeX? I don't even need docbook so have no idea why texlive thinks I need it...

Description: modified (diff)
Keywords: docbook texlive removed
Port: docbook-xsl added; texlive removed
Summary: Cannot get texlive to install because of checksum error in docbook-xlsdocbook-xsl: docbook-xsl-1.78.1.tar.bz2 does not exist

The specific error you got ("$distfile does not exist in $distpath") occurred because you did not clean and try again.

Thanks, I tried this yesterday (really, I did!) to no avail. In the meantime, I also had other reasons to reboot the computer and then "sudo port clean"-ed and then tried again. Seems to be working now. I should no by now that if something stops working, always begin by rebooting the computer. Just seems like such a crude approach... Thanks! Rob

Really: cleaning is all you needed to do. The transcript you provided contained the words "Skipping completed" which indicated that it was not a clean attempt.
