xfig 3.2.5c SIGSEGV crash when quitting — at Version 2

when exiting xfig, i.e. with meta-q, the program does not terminate and the one of the following error messages is shown in the command window: 

xfig3.2.5c: SIGSEGV signal trapped
xfig: Figure is empty or not modified - exiting without saving.

or 

xfig3.2.5c: X error trapped - error message follows:

Request code: <Unknown>
xfig: Figure is empty or not modified - exiting without saving.

[1]+  Segmentation fault: 11  xfig -noscalablefonts Vrh-Vce7-composed.fig

After that, the xfig job needs to be killed from the command line

The issue might be related to ticket #50934, supposedly solved
