BUG: hfsrsync-2.5.5 run time issue - can't handle missing files

Reported by: mnot@… Owned by: macports-tickets@…
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version:
Keywords: Cc: css@…, blb@…
Port: hfsrsync

Description (last modified by blb@…) (diff)

When a file is removed during hfssync operation, it complains loudly;

hfsrsync(2037) malloc: *** error for object 0x411eb50: double free
hfsrsync(2037) malloc: *** set a breakpoint in szone_error to debug
send_files failed to open /Users/mnot/Library/Mail/Envelope Index-journal: No such file or directory

Doing this multiple times for every missing file (probably one for each block?).

This sounds like a problem, not with the port as such, but the software - have you reported this to the authors of the software. It sounds like an upstream fix could be a solution.

Has upstream hfsrsync development stopped entirely? Perhaps we should consider something like  rsync+hfsmode or #6436, as even Mac OS X 10.4's hfs-aware rsync has significant problems.

Looks that way to me, I vote we drop this port. Any objections?

None from me ... the official rsync now contains numerous fixes over this port. I use it regularly!
